6 Videos That Explain Content Marketing

15 Feb 2016

What the heck is content marketing? What does it comprise? How can it help your organization? These six videos should give you plenty of insights––and quite a bit of entertainment.

1. Intro to Content Marketing - with Joe Pulizzi

Indeed, Joe Pulizzi is the "godfather of content marketing." He's also the founder of the Content Marketing Institute. Here, he talks plainly and simply about this "new" marketing tactic. (1 hour)

2. The Story of Content: Rise of the New Marketing

Also from CMI comes this slick, theater-quality documentary about how content marketing has emerged as a niche. Highly recommended. (45 minutes)

3. Greatest Misconception in Content Marketing

From Moz comes this neat destruction of the myth that content marketing is a quick solution. (10 minutes)

4. Kevin Spacey - Closing Keynote @ Content Marketing World

Content Marketing World is the biggest content marketing conference in the world. A couple of years ago, they got Kevin Spacey to be their keynote speaker. And while his message is simple and obvious, it's also compelling––because, hey, it's Kevin Spacey. (5 minutes)

5. 3 Common Content Marketing Mistakes (And How to Fix Them)

From VM Measures comes a snappy little video with three practical tips. I'd recommend anyone in charge of content marketing watch this at least once a week. (3 minutes)

6. David Ogilvy: We Sell or Else

This is from the early 1960s, and it's one of my professional heroes, David Ogilvy––a giant in the history of advertising. It has nothing to do with content marketing directly––it's more of a defense of direct sales advertising––but Ogilvy's message is simple: We sell or else.

After all, content marketing's ultimate goal is sales. And Ogilvy reminds us not to forget this. (7 minutes)
