TradeMark Employees' Favorite Charities
Wednesday, December 05, 2007
In the spirit of the holiday season, the TradeMark staffers would like to share some of our favorite charities with you. Check these out to learn a little more about us and the causes we support.
Nick Weynand, President: EmanciPET – www.emancipet.org
EmanciPET is dedicated to preventing animal homelessness and putting an end to euthanasia as a means of population control by providing low-cost or free surgical sterilization of dogs and cats. I’m volunteering by selling EmanciPET’s 2008 calendar, which supports EmanciPET programs. If you wish to purchase individual calendars, please visit http://www.emancipetcalendar.com/. If you are a retailer and are interested in helping distribute calendars, please contact me at 512-626-2555 or nick@trademarkmedia.com.
Caroling Lee, Producer: DFW Pug Rescue Club - www.dfwpugs.com
Most of you know by now that I’m the proud parent of a pug named Rothko, so part of my annual giving goes to a great organization that works tirelessly to rescue pugs (and pug mixed breeds), nurse them back to health and find them great homes. DFW Pug Rescue serves Dallas/Ft. Worth, Austin and Houston.
Jean Conover, Director of Business Development: Reading is FUNdamental - www.rifaustin.org
Reading is FUNdamental (RIF) gives books to Austin children from low-income families to motivate them to become lifelong readers and teaches their parents effective ways of sharing books with their children. I volunteer by reading aloud to the children during RIF Week, during which books are donated through schools.
Mike Wisian, Director of Technology: Austin Yellow Bike Project – www.austinyellowbike.org
The Austin Yellow Bike Project (YBP) is a community-supported all-volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to providing human-powered transportation for the people of Austin, running a community bike shop and educating kids and adults. Volunteering at YBP is a great way to help out the community while learning how to build and maintain bikes.
Manoj Thomas, Design Technologist: MS 150 Bike Tour - www.ms150.org
The BP MS 150 Bike Tour is a two-day cycling journey that begins in Houston and ends in Austin with an overnight stay in La Grange, Texas. The 150+ mile ride, which is a fund-raising event for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Lone Star Chapter, raises money to help people living with multiple sclerosis and attracts over 10,000 riders each year, making it the largest organized charity cycling event in the U.S. I always heard about it when living in Houston and finally began participating and volunteering when I moved to Austin.
Janis Gonser, Design Technologist: Heifer International – www.heifer.org
Heifer International fights hunger in the world by providing appropriate livestock, training and related services to small-scale farmers and communities worldwide. I came across this organization when some friends of mine got married and combined their two households. Instead of adding to the already more than complete household, they encouraged their guests to buy chickens, bees, goats and other livestock for people in need.
Sarah Buser, Studio Manager: Child’s Play - www.childsplaycharity.org
Every Christmas I donate to Child’s Play, an organization founded by gamers that gives toys to children’s hospitals all over the world. To donate, go to childsplaycharity.org and click on a participating hospital to see its Amazon.com wish list. Buy whichever toys you like and Amazon ships them to the hospital for you.
