TradeMark Media has won second place in the 10th annual Accessibility Internet Rally- Austin Formula One category. Put on by Knowbility, AIR-Austin pairs local non-profit organizations with Web design teams to create new Web sites or enhance existing ones to make them more accessible for people with disabilities. TradeMark worked with TiE Austin, a not-for-profit global network of entrepreneurs and professionals, to create a brand new site to be launched this winter. This year, for the first time, Austin winners will go head-to-head with the winners of AIR-Houston and AIR-San Antonio to determine the statewide champion in the first-ever Texas Accessibility Championship.
“We at TradeMark Media feel that building accessible Web sites should be standard practice for all developers. We take pride in participating in such a positive competition each year and seeing more and more interactive firms getting involved. We’re thrilled to have won second place and to qualify for the first ever state competition!” says Jean Conover, director of business development at TradeMark.
TradeMark Media is grateful for the help of two of its contractors, Joel Skotak of Sko Design Lab and Jonathan Horak, who donated their time to help with the planning and creation of the new TiE Austin site.
The Web sites were judged on 36 criteria that determine ease of use, best practices in Web design, and design features that recognize disabilities such as poor eyesight or color blindness. The competition has two categories: Stock Car, which was judged on basic accessibility, such text alternatives for pictures, and Formula One, which was also judged on advanced technologies like multimedia, data tables, flash, and scripted applications.
