TradeMark Media Wins Knowbility’s 11th Annual AIR-Austin Competition with New Site for Mary Lee Foundation
November 14, 2008 |
Austin interactive design agency TradeMark Media has won Knowbility’s AIR-Austin competition by redesigning a Web site for non-profit Mary Lee Foundation. TradeMark took first place in the Formula One division, which is the more advanced of two AIR divisions. AIR-Austin is part of a nationwide initiative to ensure that those with disabilities have access to the Internet as a tool for gaining knowledge, independence and exploring job opportunities. The winning site can be seen at http://www.maryleefoundation.org.
On Saturday, October 18th, Web design teams from more than two-dozen Austin companies including Dell, the University of Texas, Hoover’s, and Whole Foods joined together for a voluntary day of intense competition to build or improve Web sites for non-profit organizations. The sites were judged on thirty-six criteria that determine ease of use of the sites, best practices in Web design and design features that recognize those with disabilities such as poor eyesight and colorblindness.
TradeMark created a Web site for Mary Lee Foundation with a fresh design by Joel Skotak of Sko Design Lab. The site features accessible features such as accessible code, a high-contrast view, alternate text for images and tables, a redesigned, screen-reader friendly structure for content, and an accessible search function.
The competition has two categories; Stock Car and Formula One. The Stock Car class sites are judged on basic accessibility while Formula One entries are also judged on advanced technologies.
This was TradeMark’s sixth time participating in AIR-Austin and its fifth time placing in the top three winners.
