SXSW Interactive - Day 1

A group of us headed out from the office at about 2:30 pm today, after a mad scramble to get our new Web site launched (you're looking at it). After standing in line for about an hour, I headed over to Ballroom A where Paul Annett was speaking about Unnatural Experiments in Web Design.
The speech was interesting but not particularly valuable. Paul took us through many design examples that he draws inspiration from including logos, products and Web sites. He showed off the Aerosmith logo (which is an ambigram if you rotate it 180 degrees), Moo Stickers and the portfolio of Bryan Katzel (which is visually dazzling if you just keep scrolling).
Granted, the examples Paul brought to the presentation were impressive, but overall his speech lacked substance and I found myself no better off for attending it. It was simply a nice show and tell.
After the panels ended, Janis, Jean, Sarah and I headed over to the Emblem studio for a short happy hour.
We called it quits after that, anticipating the need for a good night sleep before the next 4 days of the conference (I’m excited, but tired just thinking about it).
Please check in tomorrow for a recap of the day’s activities.

I agree. The presentation was more like one person showing off some cool examples/sites, although I did like Paul’s style quite a bit. It always makes a big difference how the information is presented.
