Janis’s responsibilities as developer at TradeMark Media include implementation of client Web site designs in XHTML/CSS, CMS integration (Expression Engine, WordPress), Usability Consulting, and site maintenance requests. His main areas of interest are visual design, standards, and usability.

Janis's career started in 1998 during a college course for Sports Journalism in Hamburg, Germany. Soon after, he began designing and developing Web sites and graphics for friends and family. In 1999 he moved from Hamburg to Tallahassee, Florida, where he worked at the Learning Systems Institute (LSI), a research foundation which is part of the Florida State University. Over the years his work focused more and more towards the development of Web sites and applications, but also included responsibilities in the area of usability testing, print design, and project management.

Janis lives in North Austin, with his wife Amie, daughter Naya, their cat, Lucie, and dog, Gus. In his spare time he puts his nose in wine books and glasses, makes sausages with Mike, runs, and enjoys good food. He is getting very excited about the start of the commuter rail which he hopes will cut down his time spent in his car.

  • Janis is working on his long term plan to be fully self-sustainable. So far he's only made it as far as making sausages, boudin, cheese, beer and bread. It’s a matter of priorities.
  • Janis got married in the middle of nowhere in South West Louisiana, close to the home of Tabasco Hot Sauce.
  • Janis introduces his team members regularly to German music, including hip hop (and excluding David Hasselhoff).
